As most people who know me are aware I love anything to do with Mars, for me the Red Planet is fascinating, mysterious, mesmerising and secretive. So right now in August 2009 it is fab to be able to see this planet so close to Earth. The next time Mars will be so close (visible to the naked eye) to Earth will be in 2287 – so be aware that none alive today will ever see this again.
I have read that by the end of August (approx 27) Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at around 12.30am. Mars will at this time be the brightest object in the sky closest to the Moon and due to magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon. You will be able to see Mars clearly throughout August as it gets brighter and brighter, it really is a historical moment so take a look at our sky at night its really lovely..
